Daylight Savings Time Update 2007

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE ENERGY POLICY ACT OF 2005.

Radiant/POS Solutions is committed to supporting our customers for the changes in the Energy Policy Act of 2005. One of the key provisions of the Energy Policy Act was to extend daylight savings time (DST) by approximately 4 weeks. In compliance with this provision, beginning in 2007, DST dates in the United States will start 3 weeks earlier, on the second Sunday in March (March 11, 2007), and will end one week later on the first Sunday in November (November 4, 2007). The Aloha software uses the Windows Runtime libraries to determine the date and time of DST changes. ACTION IS REQUIRED to ensure the time change occurs correctly on March 11, 2007 on future time changes and does not change incorrectly on the previous standard of the first Sunday in April (April 1, 2007) and the last Sunday in October (October 28, 2007).

DST Update Options and Impact

1. Update every file server and terminal – Radiant Systems strongly recommends that you update EVERY file server and terminal with the operating system patch to ensure the time change occurs on the correct date.
2. Do nothing - if no action occurs and the DST update is not applied to the file server and terminals, serious unintentional system behavior will occur. Any time-sensitive function in the Aloha POS is impacted, such as End of Day not processing at the correct time, events (special pricing, lunch, dinner, HH) not firing correctly, or printed guest checks and receipts showing the incorrect time. You can manually change the time on the Aloha office server and refresh to get the correct time set on the terminals. If terminals are configured to automatically adjust for Daylight Savings, the time change will occur on April 1, 2007, forcing users to again manually update the system time.

Microsoft is currently releasing a patch for Windows XP SP2, Windows XP Embedded and Windows Server 2003 available as a download or through automatic updates. All other operating system versions can manually be edited using the Microsoft TZedit utility, POS Solutions is evaluating other 3rd party tools to help automate the process on some of the unsupported operating systems.

Please contact POS’s sales department to inquire about upgrading your terminals and operating systems.

Note: By definition, all third-party software is beyond the control of POS Solutions, Inc. Use this or any third-party application at your own risk.

If you would like POS Solutions to apply the DST updates at your location(s), please call us at (512) 833-9840 to be added to the list. Customers under their 90 day warranty or who have a phone support contract will not be charged for us to do the updates remotely. http://support.microsoft.com/gp/dst_topissues - A5
